YOUTH HOCKEY FESTIVAL RULES 2007
1. General
1.1 Entrants must be Under 8, 10, 12, 14, or 16 as at 1st September 2006.
1.2 U8, U10, U12 squads MUST play 2 girls on the pitch throughout the matches.
U14 boys may play girls. Girls and boys U16 squads must be single sex. Team
sheets must be completed with players’ names and dates of birth and handed to
the organiser before play starts.
1.3 Players may only play for one team in each age group.
1.4 U8, U10 & U12 games (Saturday): Clubs must provide at least one umpire for
each team entered.
U14 & U16 games (Sunday): Umpires will be provided for all games.
1.5 Three points will be awarded for a win, two points for a score draw and one
point for a no-score draw. If, on completion of a pool, leading teams are equal
on points their positions will be determined as follows:-
• winner of match between the tied teams;
• most games won;
• fewest games lost;
• greater number of goals scored;
• least number of goals conceded;
• toss of a coin (or in a single league, a sudden death play-off if time
permits).
In the event of a tie in the finals, the result will be determined as follows:-
For the Under 8’s :
- sudden death extra time with the first goal scored or corner won.
For all other age groups:
- a barrage of 3 alternate penalty strokes using 3 nominated players.
- sudden death penalty strokes using remaining members of squad.
1.6 All pool games will be played 12 minutes one way with no half time and a 3
minute break between games. (Timings may be adjusted on the day).
1.7 There will be central time-keeping. Games will only be allowed to continue
to complete penalty strokes. (not penalty corners due to time constraints)
1.8 Rolling substitutions are allowed at any time from the half way line. Goal
Keepers may be substituted from the corner nearest their goal.
1.9 Only the participating players, umpires and one coach from each side are
allowed on the playing area. All other players and supporters must stand in the
spectator area between pitches 1A/B and 2A/B and away from the goals
1.10 In the event of a colour clash, the second named team will change.
1.11 The first named team will provide the match ball and will be deemed to have
‘won the toss’ for push back or choice of ends.
2. Under 8/10/12 Games
2.1 Teams will play seven a side mini hockey on a half sized pitch from a
maximum squad of twelve in any one game.
2.2 U8’s play 7 a side with no goalkeeper. Kicking backs are not allowed. All
other teams must play with a fully kitted goalkeeper. Goalkeepers may be
substituted.
2.3 For Under 8’s only: Hitting and flicking the ball at goal will be considered
dangerous play where unprotected defenders stand between the striker and the
goal.
2.4 For Under 8’s only: There will be no penalties or short corners. For an
offence that would normally result in a penalty corner, a free hit will be taken
by the attacking team on a line with the top of the defenders circle. For an
offence that would normally result in a penalty stroke, a free hit will be taken
as above, but the defending player will be temporarily suspended (yellow card).
2.5 For Under 10/12’s: If a penalty corner is awarded, the remaining 2 defending
players must stand in the opposite ‘D’ (as opposed to behind the halfway line in
11 a side hockey)
2.6 One umpire will officiate each game.
3. Under 14 & 16 Games
3.1 Teams will play nine a side on a full sized pitch from a maximum squad of
fourteen in any one game.
3.2 Each team must play a fully kitted goalkeeper. Kicking backs are not
allowed.
3.3 Two umpires will officiate each game
4. Discipline
4.1 If a team fails to arrive on the pitch within two minutes of the appointed
start, they will forfeit the game 3-0.
4.2 If a player is temporarily suspended (yellow card), he/she may not be
substituted for the period of suspension. If a player is sent off (red card),
he/she will take no further part in the tournament and their team will play with
one less on the pitch for the remainder of the tournament.
4.3 Umpires will be instructed to suspend players for deliberate time wasting.
4.4 In the event of a dispute, the tournament referee’s decision will be final.
